Shift of personal information paradigm

I learned that keep things simple is a must to develop business, Facebook privacy has more than 50 different settings, with more than 170 options. The page that explains them has more than 45.000 words and its policy is longer than the US constitution, according to a report released by the NY Times, which is below.
It is very important to understand the shift of paradigm that they are implementing, before was what I do public and today is what I do private.

The graphic below is not completely relevant to the previous part of the post, however I believe is also important to understand some facts about what facebook is doing, how many people is affected and who is the modern media consumer.
- 400 million active users
- 50% check in daily
- Average user spends 55 minutes per day
- 35 million update status every day
- 3 billion photos uploaded each month
- 5 billion pieces of content shared every day
- 70% of users are outside the United States

There is always the possibility to turn off your account, I wonder if it is going to start happening or if they are going to succeed with the implementation of the new paradigm.
