According to a poll from Forbes, two in five americans still don´t know what Wikileaks is and for those who know, it is becoming common to say they don’t like Wikileaks because they can’t stand Julian Assange. This is misleading. Few sympathize with him as a character. But the issue here is not Assange, his hair or whatever he decides or not to do. The matter instead, is the new way that information has been shared and what we have learned thanks to Wikileaks.
Few months ago, I said that it would be almost impossible block Wikileaks, becuase of the nature that it was built. I didn’t think that a better system could opaque Wikileaks and my solution was try to make wikileaks better instead of putting the system down.
Recently, a group of people who used to work with Assange at Wikileaks has started a new organization called Openleaks, with a slightly different way to publish information.
According to them they based on a more decentralized concept. They do not aim to publish documents directly, but rather to enable third parties to safely receive and work on documents themselves. The public already trusts them, with their existing capabilities and experience to analyze and work on submitted material. They simply enable them to receive information that they otherwise might not get access to in their local jurisdictional environment.
Check out the video below, to have a more clear idea of what they are trying to achieve:
