Lessons for Life

Lessons for Life is a project started by a friend from Los Angeles, her name is Snow White Bui. Yeap, her real name is Snow White Bui and is not a caricature from Disney.

Lessons for Life is a project to share life´s greatest lessons. Wouldn’t it be cool if we could have a wide-range of people from any culture, background or age sharing the three things they wish they knew when they were younger?

Few weeks ago, she asked me to share her project with some people that I knew and I asked her if I could post about her project on my blog. She agreed, so know everyone who is reading this post is invited to participate :) .

If you want to participate just:

  1. Download and print the template to share your three things.
  2. Hand-write the template (yeap there’s just something about the human touch that could not be replicate by any font yet).
  3. Mail it: Lessons For Life Project, P.O. Box 4718, Culver City, CA 90231, United States. If mailing it is too difficult, you could try scanning/emailing to Snow White Bui
  4. Check every Tuesday http://lessonsforlifeproject.com/. She´ll post up what others have written.

Thanks and cheers,

Kinect is flying!

It was only a matter of time before somebody put the Kinect to do some amazing things. The Kinect, is a motion sensing input device from Microsoft for the Xbox 360. Kinect is one of the fastest-selling consumer-tech product and it´s competing with Ipad´s speed. It racked up 10 million sales in just four months… Some of those 10 million users started doing pretty cool robots with its fully functioning depth cameras, which measure the distance between the Kinect and objects in front of it.

“We’re trying to usher in a new era of computers, a world of tomorrow,” says Xbox general manager of incubation Alex Kipman. Check below the autonomous flight and obstacle avoidance Kinect device.

Nineteen eighty four

On January 1984, I was a little more than few months and my capacity to recognize or understand was merely zero…

Today, if someone asked me what 1984 is for me, I´d probably answer George Orwell´s book, however few weeks ago I found there was a historic tv commercial from Apple which introduced Apple Macintosh Personal Computer for the first time, called 1984. It was broad-casted during the third quarter of the Superbowl.

The commercial concludes with scrolling white text on a black background which reads: On January 24th, Apple Computer will introduce Macintosh. And you’ll see why 1984 won’t be like “1984.”

The commercial was updated on 2004 on its 20th anniversary, with the heroine modified to be listening to an iPod.

Pills against pain of others

In the first world, if you are in pain there´re pills to mitigate almost any pain. But … What if it hurts you it’s pain, the pain of those who do not have pills to cure their suffering?

A Spanish NGO created pills against pain of others. They are sold exclusively on pharmacies and they donate profits to Doctors with out borders. The total cost of each of the boxes of pills is 9 cents of euro and they are sold for 1. Doctors without borders distributes net income to fund projects of Malaria, Tuberculosis, pediatric AIDS, Chagas and Kala Zar.

Check out their video, to understand better how it works.
